....Cumulus Media country KRST Albuquerque (92.3) will host its second annual “Country Cares for St. Kids Radiothon” benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The two-day fundraising event is Thursday and Friday (June 11-12) between 7am and 7pm each day. KRST on-air staff including Bev (9am-12pm), Bobby G (12-3pm), Juan Velasco (3-7pm) and Promotion Director Mandi Vaquera will be live from remote locations and will join together on social media through live stream and on-air, with interviews and artist performances throughout the radiothon. Last year, KRST raised $102,847 for the kids of St. Jude and surpassed its projected goal within just a few hours.
...Beasley Media Group will give away 250,000 in advertising grants to businesses located in the Philadelphia market across its five FM stations there. Country WXTU (92.5), rock WMMR (93.3), adults hits “Ben FM” WBEN-FM (95.7), sports “97.5 The Fanatic” WPEN and classic rock WMGK (102.9) will each award five $10,000 grants from June 8-21 in a partnership with energy company PECO. Interested local businesses are being encouraged to submit a 300-word essay on why they should be chosen to receive the grant. Beasley says consideration will be based on the company’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as community service, business culture and employee loyalty. “Small businesses are struggling to find ways to propel their business from the COVID-19 shutdown,” said Beasley Media Group VP of Sales Paul Blake. “They are the backbone of our country and of the radio industry. It’s a privilege for us to help the community and to award $250,000 in advertising grants to worthy small businesses.”
...Connoisseur Media classic rock WPLR New Haven (99.1) will broadcast the graduation ceremony of Amity Regional High School on Wednesday, June 10 at 5pm. “We have felt incredibly bad for our local high school seniors and we thought this was a great way to honor them,” Vice President of Programming Keith Dakin said in a release. “They won’t be able to walk across the graduation stage but they will be able to hear their name over 50,000 watts throughout the state. Who else can say that?”
...Benztown and P1 Media Group will host a free webinar for radio professionals around the globe, entitled “Global Radio Ideas: How Programming is Changing as the World Reopens.” The webinar, which will be held Thursday, June 11 at 1pm (ET), will be the first in a series that provide insights gleaned from the companies’ Coronavirus Radio Ideas Facebook group. The inaugural webinar will be hosted by Andreas Sannemann, Benztown CEO, and Ken Benson, Partner, P1 Media Group, and will feature special guest, Mike McVay of McVay Media. ...Midem has named Super Hi-Fi, the AI-powered audio experience company, the winner of the 2020 Midemlab competition for music tech startups in the Music Distribution and Discovery category. “We’re extremely excited to be recognized by Midem and honored by the choice of the jury,” Super Hi-Fi Co-Founder and CEO Zack Zalon said in a release. “We believe that differentiation will be the primary driver of growth for the streaming music industry in the coming years, and this award is an excellent proof point that our vision is starting to break through.”
...Morning man Marty Shirah returns to Andrulonis Media’s (formerly Colonial Radio Group) “Carolina Country,” which is broadcast on WMIR-FM Myrtle Beach (93.9), WUDE Wilmington (106.3) and WFAY Fayetteville (1230) after suffering a heart attack nearly two weeks ago. While Shirah recuperated Rockcastle Media Networks’ Wilhite and Wall filled in.
